When cd's first came out, they were sold in long boxes. This made it less convenient for shoplifters. But it added to the cost of production and the over inflated cost to the consumer and was soon dropped...even though the over inflated cost to the consumer didn't come down. Now displayed for sale in just it's jewel case, it was easier to shoplift the cd's. Then came the alpha cd keeper. Meant to allow display of the cd as if it were in a long box but removable at point of sale and reusable. They won't keep the shoplifters from doing it but it will make it more difficult and even deter some. Made for standard jewel cases. Single and double cd sizes.
